Former MLB pitcher Tommy Hanson died at the age of 29 late Monday night.

Zach Klein of WSB Atlanta first reported the news via Twitter early Tuesday morning that Hanson passed away, according to a MLB source.

Klein had reported earlier that the former Braves pitcher was in the hospital with a coma due to catastrophic organ failure.

What caused the organ failure remains unknown.

Hanson last pitched in the majors for the Angels in 2013 and spent four seasons with the Atlanta Braves. He spent the last two seasons in the minors for the White Sox and Giants.

Players and former teammates sent their condolences on Twitter shortly after the news broke.
